A Ukrainian sniper team has reportedly set a new world record for the longest confirmed sniper shot, hitting Russian soldiers from over 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) away.

The shot, made with a Ukrainian-built rifle and supported by artificial intelligence and drone technology, killed two Russian troops near Pokrovsk, Ukraine, according to the Kyiv Post.

“The record-breaking shot was made on Aug. 14, 2025, using artificial intelligence under the guidance of [an unmanned aerial vehicle] complex with a 14.5 mm alligator rifle,” said military journalist Yuri Butusov, according to the Kyiv Post.

The attack happened as Russian strikes increased around Pokrovsk, a city that once had more than 60,000 residents.

The earlier sniper record also belonged to a Ukrainian. In that case, a 58-year-old sniper hit a target from about 12,400 feet (3,800 meters), the outlet reported.

The new record came just one day before President Donald Trump’s highly watched summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At their joint press conference, Putin said the talks were held in a “constructive atmosphere of mutual respect.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also scheduled to meet with Trump in Washington, D.C., on Monday. Zelenskyy wrote on X that he and Trump will “discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war.”
