Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, announced they are expecting their fourth child — a baby boy.
The couple shared the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, Jan. 20, saying Usha and the baby are doing well and that they’re expecting to welcome him in late July.
JD and Usha are already parents to three children: Ewan, 8; Vivek, 5; and Mirabel, 4.
“We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July,” the post said. The message also expressed gratitude to the medical team caring for their family and to staff members supporting their public service while they raise their children.

Usha, 40, is the first vice presidential spouse to be pregnant while her husband is in office. She is also the youngest woman to serve as second lady since Jane Hadley Barkley, who took on the role in 1949 at age 38.
Throughout his political career, JD Vance has frequently emphasized the importance of family and raising children. During the 2025 March for Life, he told the crowd, “Let me say very simply: I want more babies in the United States of America. I want more happy children in our country, and I want beautiful young men and women who are eager to welcome them into the world and eager to raise them.”
In a 2021 conference hosted by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, Vance argued the country was facing a “civilization crisis,” pointing to declining birth rates and what he described as broader signs of weakening family formation. He suggested the U.S. consider policies similar to those used in Hungary, including offering loans to newly married couples that could be forgiven if they stay together and have children. “Why can’t we actually promote family formation?” he said.
