An Orlando woman faces multiple felony charges following a violent road rage incident where she allegedly assaulted a pregnant driver, attacked a senior citizen, and bit an arresting officer.
Mandolyn Shaffer-Brockwell, 37, was taken into custody by the Orlando Police Department (OPD) following the February 23 confrontation near Millenia Boulevard and Millenia Plaza Way. Authorities released video footage this week documenting the escalation, which investigators characterize as a “battery related to a driving dispute.”
According to police reports, the conflict began when Shaffer-Brockwell allegedly began “brake-checking” a 35-year-old pregnant woman. The victim, who had a child in her vehicle at the time, told dispatchers she attempted to change lanes to avoid the suspect.
The situation turned physical when Shaffer-Brockwell allegedly cut across two lanes of traffic, exited her vehicle, and jumped onto the hood of the victim’s white SUV. Video evidence shows the suspect forcing open the driver-side door and repeatedly punching the pregnant woman in the face.
A 68-year-old bystander who stopped to intervene was also targeted. Police state Shaffer-Brockwell shouted profanities at the senior citizen before scratching and striking her.
Orlando Police officers located Shaffer-Brockwell shortly after the reported assaults. Law enforcement officials state the suspect remained combative during the detention process.
“When the officer attempted to detain her, she refused to comply, violently resisted, and bit the officer while trying to avoid being handcuffed,” the OPD confirmed in a statement. Bodycam footage captures the suspect shouting “I plead the fifth” before biting the officer’s arm as he attempted to secure her on the ground.
