A 32-year-old Texas woman has been charged in connection with the death of a man who was found severely injured inside a tool shed on church property, according to law enforcement authorities.
Prosecutors allege the woman assaulted her boyfriend during an altercation and left him inside the shed, where he was later discovered by church members. The victim, a 64-year-old maintenance worker at the church, was transported to a hospital and died days later from his injuries.
According to an arrest affidavit, members of a Baptist church in China Grove discovered the man unconscious and partially unclothed inside a shed that had been adapted as living quarters. Investigators reported visible blood throughout the space, including on furniture and clothing.
The man was initially taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a medical facility in San Antonio as his condition worsened. He died two days later. An autopsy determined that he suffered multiple head wounds, including a skull fracture and internal brain bleeding. Authorities said at least one injury was consistent with being inflicted by a blunt object, possibly a hammer or similar tool.
Police also reported that the man’s wallet and pickup truck were missing after he was found. Investigators later recovered a damaged hammer from a drainage culvert near the suspect’s residence after receiving a tip. The truck was allegedly sold after attempts were made to alter its appearance and remove blood evidence, according to statements cited in the affidavit.
The suspect later contacted police and claimed the incident stemmed from self-defense following a confrontation. Investigators also interviewed an acquaintance who said the suspect described blacking out during the altercation and striking the man repeatedly.
The woman has been charged with first-degree murder, theft, and evidence tampering. She remains in custody at the Bexar County Jail. Court records do not indicate whether she has legal representation. Authorities have said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may emerge as the case proceeds.
