A 55-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her 67-year-old partner, who was found deceased on Jan. 30 in Bilbao, a city in northern Spain, according to a translated statement from the Ertzaintza, the region’s autonomous police force.
Authorities said officers were dispatched to a residence in Bilbao’s Uribarri neighborhood after receiving a report of a suspected homicide. Once inside the home, police discovered the body of a man who had “suffered a violent death,” the statement said.
Police added that the man’s partner was at the scene and allegedly confessed. She was taken into custody on suspicion of murder, and investigators have opened an inquiry to determine what led up to the incident.
According to El Diario Vasco, the woman’s adult daughter contacted authorities after her mother told her she had committed the crime. The outlet also reported that the victim’s body showed signs of multiple stab wounds, including to the neck, and that his penis had been severed.

Neighbors told El Diario Vasco they heard shouting coming from the apartment before the incident. While no official motive has been released, the outlet reported the alleged attack may have been driven by jealousy.
A friend of the couple told El Diario Vasco they were stunned by the news. “I’m in shock. We never expected this, and certainly not in the way it happened,” the friend said, adding that they had often spent time together on the terrace after work. The friend also noted that outward appearances can be deceiving: “No one knows what happens inside people’s homes. They seemed like a normal couple, not toxic at all.”
Another neighbor echoed that impression, telling El Diario Vasco, “They seemed like the perfect couple.”
The couple had been together for five years, and the victim owned a local bar, according to El Diario Vasco.
