Persistence finally paid off for a woman who refused to stop buying raffle tickets, even as her husband repeatedly urged her to quit.
After years of entering the Omaze Million Pound House Draw in England, longtime Swindon resident Nicola Dickinson and her husband, Martyn, hit the jackpot: a $6 million (£4,500,000) Lake District mansion plus a nearly $300,000 (£250,000) cash prize.
“He’s been moaning about me entering for four years. I’m really glad I don’t listen to him,” Nicola, 59, said in a video interview with Omaze UK.
Martyn, 58, had to agree. “And I’m very glad you don’t listen to me as well.”
In a blog post about the property, Omaze UK highlighted the five-bedroom home’s standout features, including a sauna and barrel hot tub overlooking private Lake Windermere, a hidden wine cooler, a garden, glass balcony doors, and a minimalist en suite framed by woodland views.
“Follow floating wooden steps to your state-of-the-art kitchen, where bespoke Swedish cabinetry meets locally-quarried, metamorphic slate,” the description read.
The write-up even painted a picture of what life in the house could look like during the holidays.
“Cooking Christmas dinner is a joy with two double Miele ovens and an induction hob, as loved ones relax by the fire on sumptuous sofas of ochre velvet and eye up a glittering stack of presents beneath the tree,” Omaze UK continued. “After a lingering feast at this natural oak table in a dining room with wraparound lakeside views, you find quiet corners for contented tête-à-têtes and comfortable arenas for rounds of charades.”

In a video tour of the home, Nicola described what the win could mean for her family long-term.
“For the future, there’s that stability to have something like this and give them a life that we never had — a legacy,” she said.

The couple had been thinking about cutting costs and moving somewhere smaller — until the raffle changed everything.

“We’d actually been talking that very morning about downsizing soon to try and keep on top of our outgoings — but now we’ve upsized — massively. It’s a funny old world,” said the grandma of three per British newspaper The Sun.
“We’re looking forward to further supporting our children and grandchildren, to help give them the best possible start in life — the win feels like a generational legacy for our family,” she added.
