An infant is recovering in the hospital after being attacked by the family dog at a home in Florida.
Around 2:40 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, Hallandale Beach Police were informed that a 1-year-old child was being treated at a local hospital following a dog attack at a residence on Southeast Ninth Court.
According to police, the family dog attacked the child while the mother was changing the baby’s diaper. The mother quickly pulled her child away but was also bitten during the struggle. Both the mother and child suffered serious injuries.
Authorities confirmed that the dog involved was a six-year-old American Bulldog.
Reports indicate that the mother briefly looked away when she heard growling. The dog then approached and attacked the child.
The boy’s father stated that a passerby helped transport the mother and child to a nearby hospital. Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was later airlifted to DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood.
Video footage shows medical staff transporting the child on a stretcher after the helicopter landed. The mother was seen running behind them as they entered the hospital.
Police confirmed that the child is currently in stable condition.
Following the incident, the dog was surrendered by the family and is now under the custody of Broward County Animal Care and Control.

The boy’s father claimed that the dog had not shown any previous signs of aggression.
Police stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released once more information becomes available.
