Erika Kirk, CEO of Turning Point USA and widow of the late Charlie Kirk, withdrew from a scheduled appearance at the University of Georgia on Tuesday following what officials described as “very serious” threats against her life.

The announcement came just two hours before Kirk was slated to take the stage at Akins Ford Arena alongside Vice President JD Vance and Georgia Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones. Despite the heightened security concerns, Vice President Vance proceeded with the event after consulting with his Secret Service detail.

Addressing a crowd of approximately 1,200 students, Vice President Vance expressed personal concern over the safety of the TPUSA leader.

“I know that she did get some threats, and about two hours ago I was a little worried we were going to have to cancel the event because Erika was not going to come,” Vance said during his remarks. He noted that Kirk was “very worried” and encouraged her to prioritize her family’s safety.

Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet confirmed the nature of the withdrawal, citing credible threats directed specifically at Kirk. Following the event, Kirk released a statement on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “After all our family has been through, I take my security team’s recommendations extremely [seriously]. Thank you to our amazing Georgia chapter for your support.”

The security protocols surrounding Kirk have intensified since the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk, in September 2025. The Turning Point USA founder was shot and killed during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

The suspect in that case, 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson, currently faces charges of aggravated murder. Prosecutors have indicated they intend to seek the death penalty, describing the 2025 attack as “politically motivated.”

The withdrawal occurs amid a complex period for the organization. Since assuming the role of CEO, Erika Kirk has maintained a close alliance with the Vice President. In October 2025, Kirk publicly praised Vance for his support during her period of mourning, noting “similarities” between him and her late husband.

However, the decision to skip the Athens event has drawn scrutiny from some conservative figures. Commentators like Candace Owens have questioned the validity of the threats, suggesting the absence may be linked to internal organizational dynamics.

Despite these claims, the Vice President’s decision to move forward only after Secret Service clearance underscores the volatile security environment currently surrounding high-profile conservative leaders.
