Bahamian authorities have released Michigan resident Brian Hooker from custody without charges, though officials confirmed he remains a “person of interest” in the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker.

Lynette Hooker has been missing since April 4, when she reportedly went overboard while the couple was traveling via dinghy between Hope Town and Elbow Cay. Following her disappearance, the Royal Bahamas Police Force detained Brian Hooker for several days of intensive questioning.

Despite his release on April 13, the investigation into Lynette’s whereabouts is far from over. In a statement, the Royal Bahamas Police Force clarified that the decision to release Hooker followed a consultation with the Department of Public Prosecutions.

“The decision to release the individual was made following consultation with the Department of Public Prosecutions, which recommended that no charges be filed at this time pending the outcome of further investigations,” police officials stated.

A spokesperson for the force confirmed to the media that Brian Hooker maintains his status as a person of interest as investigators continue to piece together the timeline of the April 4 incident.

Hooker’s legal counsel, Terrel A. Butler, has aggressively maintained her client’s innocence. In a statement issued Tuesday, Butler asserted that Hooker “categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing” and is currently “dedicating his full emotional and physical energy” toward finding his wife of 25 years.

Prior to his detention, Brian Hooker took to social media to describe a harrowing scene at sea. He claimed that “unpredictable seas and high winds” caused Lynette to fall from the vessel.

“Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart,” Hooker wrote on Facebook. “We continue to search for her and that is my sole focus.”

The disappearance has sent shockwaves through the Michigan community where the couple resides. Bahamian authorities have not yet indicated if they have recovered any physical evidence from the dinghy or if they are exploring alternative theories beyond an accidental fall.

As of this report, the search for Lynette Hooker continues. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the couple’s movements between Hope Town and Elbow Cay on April 4 to come forward.
