Cher has filed a new petition in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking a temporary conservatorship over her son, Elijah Blue Allman, citing escalating legal trouble, alleged drug dependency, and severe mental health decline.

The filing, submitted this week and first reported by People magazine, asks the court to appoint a third-party fiduciary—rather than Cher herself—to manage Allman’s estate. The singer argues her 49-year-old son is “gravely disabled” and incapable of managing his finances or safeguarding himself from exploitation.

According to court documents, Allman is currently being held in a locked psychiatric facility in New Hampshire, where authorities are attempting to restore him to competency to face multiple criminal charges. These include felony burglary, assault, and breach of bail stemming from incidents across two counties earlier this year.

Cher alleges a pattern of financial instability and substance abuse, claiming her son “has no concept of money” and spends nearly all available funds on drugs, luxury hotels, and transportation. The documents state he receives roughly $120,000 annually from a trust linked to his late father, Gregg Allman, but quickly exhausts the funds.

The petition also outlines mounting debts and legal issues. Cher claims Allman owes approximately $200,000 in unpaid taxes, failed to comply with court-ordered spousal support to estranged wife Marieangela King, and at one point owed $18,000 to a drug dealer—forcing him to borrow money to avoid harm.

Additional allegations include property damage at short-term rentals totaling tens of thousands of dollars, erratic behavior leading to expulsion from multiple hotels, and incidents involving unsafe conduct, including passing out in traffic and causing fires while cooking.

Family members have backed the filing. Allman’s half-brother, Devon Allman, told the court he believes Elijah poses a danger to himself and lacks the ability to manage his life or finances. He described recent interactions as “profoundly distressing.”

This marks Cher’s second attempt to establish a conservatorship. She withdrew a similar petition in September 2024 after reaching a private agreement with her son.

Upcoming court dates in New Hampshire for Allman’s criminal cases are scheduled for April 20 and April 22, with a hearing on the conservatorship request set for April 24 in California.

Neither Cher’s representatives nor Allman have publicly responded to the latest filing.
