According to PubMed Central, an electronic archive of biomedical and life sciences journal articles, the 44-year-old man sought medical care after noticing pus leaking just below one of his nipples.

The patient, who requested to remain anonymous, told doctors he had not experienced any chest pain or difficulty breathing. However, he had been dealing with what appeared to be an infected area on his chest for about a week and a half.

Doctors noted that the man had been stabbed multiple times in the face, back, chest, and abdomen eight years earlier. At that time, he received treatment at a local health clinic where his wounds were stitched, but no radiological examination was performed due to limited resources.

It wasn’t until he visited the team at Muhimbili National Hospital that he received comprehensive treatment for the lingering stab wound. Initial imaging revealed that the knife blade had entered through his right shoulder and remained embedded in his chest.

The medical team successfully removed the blade, and the man was discharged 10 days after surgery, according to the May article. Doctors reported that he recovered well and emphasized that the blade could have been life-threatening if it had not been removed.
