Kai Trump says she has no interest in carrying on her grandfather’s political legacy. The 18-year-old — the oldest grandchild of President Donald Trump — shared that she’d rather stay out of politics “completely.”

Speaking on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast on Tuesday, Jan. 6, Kai told the host plainly, “I would never run” for office.

She explained that her decision comes from how she views the political climate today. “I don’t want anything to do with politics because I feel like politics is such a dangerous thing,” she said, adding that she believes things would improve if “both sides met in the middle.”

Kai also pointed to the way political discussions online can push people toward extremes. “There’s radical left, there’s radical right, and there’s a lot of people that get too extreme,” she said. “And there’s not a lot of things on social media where you’re very much in the middle. And I think that kind of makes some people crazy and some people buy into it too much.”

Her comments came after Paul, 30, asked whether Vice President Kamala Harris was “the opps,” or a rival, during the 2024 election, when Harris, 61, ran against Donald, 79.

Kai pushed back on the idea of personal animosity. “There’s no bad blood,” she said. “I’m very much in the middle and kind of like it is what it is. They ran against each other. Obviously, I’m gonna support my grandpa, my family member, but that’s that’s pretty much it.”

Kai added that she was raised in an environment where she and her siblings were encouraged to think for themselves. She is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife Vanessa Trump, who are also parents to Donald III, Tristan, Spencer and Chloe.

Reflecting on her parents, Kai said her mother has always been open to different viewpoints. “My mom let us have our own opinions, and she’s very much like me, like she’s very calm, she’s very chill, she likes hearing people out,” she said. She added of her father, “Obviously my dad, I love him, but he just goes to war online.”

“My parents have always had us letter our own opinions,” she continued. “Nothing was ever pushed upon us. I just happen to be a granddaughter of the president.”

While she said she’s developed her own views, Kai emphasized that her decision to appear at the 2024 Republican National Convention — where she spoke in support of her grandfather’s reelection — was entirely her choice.

“I did that on my own,” she said. “That was literally all my idea, but then the news goes out and says, ‘Oh, well that’s like a political plan, like that was put in place to get more voters’ or anything like that.”

She said she would have attended the convention regardless, but chose to speak as well. “There’s a lot of things online that they try dragging you in. It’s just if you’re going to take the bait or not,” she said.

Also during the podcast, Kai talked about her relationship with Barron Trump — her grandfather’s son and her uncle — describing the 19-year-old as “a great guy.” She added, “He doesn’t like the public eye so much, which I understand.”

On speculation about Trump seeking a third term, Kai dismissed the idea: “He’s not running a third term,” she said, even as the president has frequently mused about doing so.

When Paul said he would still “buy yes” in a Polymarket prediction poll that put Trump at a 4% chance of winning in 2028, Kai replied, “I mean, who knows. A lot can happen till 2028.”
