Father Found Dead in Murder-Suicide Alongside Wife and 2 Children Had Brain Cancer

A New Hampshire father who was found dead alongside his wife and two of their children in an apparent murder-suicide had been battling brain cancer.

Ryan Long, 48, Emily Long, 34, their son Parker, 8, and daughter Ryan, 6, were discovered in their Madbury, N.H., home on Monday, Aug. 18, with fatal gunshot wounds, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office. A toddler inside the home was unharmed.

Investigators believe Emily Long shot her husband and two of their children before turning the gun on herself, The Boston Globe, WMTW, and WGME reported.

On her TikTok profile, Emily described herself as a “Brain Cancer Wife,” calling the account her “personal diary” and writing that it was “cheaper than therapy.”

The New Hampshire Union Leader cited a neighbor who confirmed that Ryan had been diagnosed with brain cancer before his death.

In her final TikTok video, shared the day before the tragedy, Emily admitted she had been in a “rut” and was struggling with depression related to her family’s circumstances.

“I’m making a point to get out of my depression and do this for my family,” she said.

Ryan worked as a school psychologist in the Oyster River Cooperative School District, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“The Oyster River Cooperative School District community is heartbroken by the tragic loss of four community members,” the district said in a statement reported by WMUR. “We extend our deepest sympathies to all those impacted during this incredibly difficult time.”

Emily was employed as the director of operations at a small restaurant chain in New Hampshire.
