In a chilling courtroom confrontation on the one-year anniversary of the incident, Arielle Konig testified Tuesday against her husband, a Maui anesthesiologist accused of attempting to throw her off an Oahu cliff during her birthday celebration.
Arielle Konig, 37, took the stand in the attempted murder trial of Gerhardt Konig, recounting the harrowing moments of March 24, 2025. She detailed a birthday hike that allegedly devolved into a premeditated execution attempt on a steep, isolated trail.
According to testimony delivered before a jury and live-streamed by Court TV, Arielle described feeling “uneasy” as her husband led her toward a precarious elevation. After pausing to take a photo near the cliff’s edge, she attempted to step away.
It was then, she testified, that Gerhardt grabbed her arms and pinned her down.

“He was first trying to pull me closer to the cliff,” Arielle told the court. She further alleged that Gerhardt brandished a syringe and a vial while telling her to “hold still.”
The victim detailed a terrifying exchange in which she pleaded for her life by invoking their children. “Our kids will be orphans,” she recalled telling him. “You’ll go to jail and I’ll be dead, our kids need us.”
According to Arielle, Gerhardt’s response was cold: “You’re done. We don’t need you anymore.”
The prosecution alleges that after a brief pause, Gerhardt began striking his wife with rocks. The assault only ceased when nearby hikers, alerted by Arielle’s screams, intervened and contacted emergency services.
Gerhardt Konig, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges of attempted murder, was observed taking notes throughout his wife’s testimony. The defense’s cross-examination briefly caused Arielle to lose her composure when presented with a birthday card Gerhardt had given her the morning of the alleged attack.

Legal experts note the significance of the timing; the testimony occurred exactly one year to the day of the incident.
The trial continues this week in Honolulu, where the prosecution is expected to call the hikers who discovered the scene to the stand. If convicted, the Maui physician faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole.
