President Donald Trump’s job approval has fallen to 36%, with 60% of Americans expressing disapproval, according to a new Gallup poll — his lowest rating of his second term.
Analysts warn that if these numbers hold, Republicans could face significant headwinds in next year’s midterm elections as they try to defend key seats.
Trump’s support has declined most sharply among his own party and independent voters. Approval among Republicans now stands at 84%, while only 25% of independents say they approve of the job he is doing.
Public sentiment toward Congress is even weaker, with just 14% approving of its performance.
On specific issues, Trump receives poorer ratings on healthcare, the war in Ukraine and management of the federal budget. He fares better with the public on crime, foreign affairs, foreign trade and immigration, Gallup’s findings show.
