Could this be the real-life Batman?

The Cape Coral Police Department said a local burglary arrest came with the help of an unexpected hero — a neighbor dressed in Batman pajamas.

Around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, officers responded to a home burglary in Southeast Cape Coral, Fla. When they arrived, they found the suspect already detained by resident Kyle Myvett, who was still in his zip-up onesie pajamas.

“CAPE CORAL MAN IN BATMAN PAJAMAS HELPS CATCH BURGLARY SUSPECT,” the department wrote in a Facebook post.

According to police, Myvett was asleep when his home security system alerted him to someone breaking into his vehicle. “Still dressed in his Batman pajamas, Kyle went outside to investigate and saw the suspect rummaging through his truck,” the statement said. He then discovered the suspect inside a neighbor’s garage and restrained him until officers arrived.

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Justin Schimpl, who authorities said was already known to them “from prior investigations.”

Speaking with WSAZ, Myvett explained how he detained the intruder: “I grabbed a hold of their shirt and their right wrist, and I said, ‘Listen, don’t try to get away.’”

Detectives determined that Schimpl had broken into both Myvett’s vehicle and his neighbor’s, taking multiple items including two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses valued at $300 each, cash, a woman’s wristlet, and more than $500 in gift cards.

Although Schimpl claimed he had an accomplice, authorities said the name he gave changed multiple times. A search of the area with the help of a K9 unit and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office helicopter did not turn up anyone else.

Schimpl was taken to the Lee County Jail and charged with two counts of Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance (Unarmed), two counts of Petit Theft Under $750, and one count of Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling.

Police credited Myvett’s quick thinking and bravery for helping them make the arrest, even sharing a photo of officers alongside the pajama-clad crime fighter.

Reflecting on why Batman has always been his favorite hero, Myvett told WSAZ: “I don’t have a Superman pajama because he’s kind of — if you’re impervious and invincible, you’re not really brave.”
