An Ohio man’s unlucky morning took a surprising turn when he ended up winning a $50,000 lottery prize — and remarkably, it’s not the first time his misfortune has led to a big win.
According to a news release from Ohio Lottery officials, the East Rochester resident had overslept and missed work, prompting him to stop by the Classic 2 Drive Thru in Minerva for an energy drink. While there, he also purchased a $30 scratch-off ticket and scored $500.
Feeling lucky, he picked up a few more tickets — including a Monopoly 200X scratcher. As he was driving away, he realized the ticket had won him $50,000. Still in disbelief, he reversed his truck back into the drive-thru and asked the clerk to scan it.
“I think you just changed my life,” he told the clerk after the win was confirmed.
This marks the second time in just four months that the same man hit it big on a scratch-off. Back in March, after his truck skidded off the road near a gas station, he stopped inside to buy a VIP Millions ticket — and ended up winning $20,000. He used those winnings to purchase a new truck.
Now, with his latest prize — which totals $36,000 after taxes — he plans to pay off that vehicle.
The Monopoly 200X ticket he played is a $30 scratch-off with a top prize of $200,000 a year for 25 years. As of Tuesday, July 15, three top prizes remain.
