Outgoing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said supporters of former President Donald Trump are planning what she described as a “2026 tax revolt,” arguing that their frustration with the federal government is justified.
In a post on social media, Greene said those considering such action feel overburdened and overlooked. According to her, many Americans “work their asses off, barely make ends meet,” while seeing their tax dollars sent to foreign countries, overseas wars, and non-citizens allowed into the U.S. by the federal government.
“And NOTHING is given to Americans!!!” Greene wrote, pointing to nearly $40 trillion in national debt, rising healthcare and housing costs, and the declining value of the dollar. She added that, regardless of which party holds power, the government “screws over Americans,” before asking, “What will it take to put the American people first???”
The remarks mark another escalation in Greene’s ongoing conflict with President Donald Trump following their fallout over the release of the Epstein files. Greene was among a small group of House Republicans who signed a discharge petition to force a vote on the matter. Although Trump later reversed course and signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act into law, he withdrew his endorsement of Greene and signaled support for a potential primary challenger.
Since then, Greene has announced that she will resign from Congress next week and has publicly criticized Trump on multiple fronts.
Earlier this week, she said she had long been uncomfortable with what she described as the “*******” of women linked to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
“I never liked the MAGA Mar-a-Lago *******,” Greene told The New York Times in an interview published this week. “I believe how women in leadership present themselves sends a message to younger women.” She added that, as a mother of two daughters, she was uneasy with what she described as women “puff[ing] up their lips and enlarg[ing] their breasts.”
Trump has pushed back against Greene’s criticism. At a recent rally in North Carolina, he mocked her by referring to her as “Marjorie Traitor Brown.” Greene responded by saying Trump was “having some confusion” and argued that her voting record was “more conservative and America First than he is.”
