MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler has revealed that she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Kutler, who took over the role in February following Rashida Jones’ departure, informed the network’s top anchors and key executives before sharing the news with staff during an editorial call on October 15, according to a CNN report.
“On this morning’s editorial call, she told staffers that the prognosis is good and that she anticipates being away for just a few weeks,” CNN’s Brian Stelter wrote in a post on X.
The 46-year-old executive is scheduled to undergo surgery next month. Stelter reported that Kutler, a mother of three, encouraged her team to prioritize their health as they continue navigating an intense news cycle.
The diagnosis comes at a pivotal time for MSNBC, which recently announced plans to rebrand as MS Now following its separation from NBCUniversal. In August, Kutler introduced the network’s “new, separate identity,” emphasizing that the rebrand “allows us to set our own course and assert our independence as we continue to build our own modern newsgathering operation.”
“While our name will be changing, who we are and what we do will not,” Kutler wrote. “Our commitment to our work and our audiences will not waver from what the brand promise has been for three decades.”
