CANBERRA, Australia — Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Policing and child welfare officials have launched a renewed, high-priority appeal to identify the family of a newborn boy abandoned at a suburban fire station three months ago. The infant, found wrapped in a distinctive blanket, remains in foster care as authorities shift their focus from investigation to preserving the child’s medical and cultural heritage.
The Discovery at South Tuggeranong
At approximately 7:20 a.m. local time on Nov. 27, 2025, emergency responders discovered the unharmed infant outside the South Tuggeranong ACT Fire & Rescue Station in Conder, a suburb of Canberra.
Initial forensic estimates suggested the boy was left within 24 hours of his birth. While a blue SUV was observed near the station shortly before the discovery, no individuals have come forward in the 90 days following the incident.

A Search for Medical and Cultural Identity
On Monday, March 2, 2026, Anne-Marie Sabellico, head of the Health and Community Services Directorate, emphasized that the current priority is not prosecution, but the child’s long-term well-being.
“We are seeking details about any family medical history, cultural or identity connections, and any hopes that his family has for him,” Sabellico stated. “This information will shape his life story. One day, he will want to understand where he came from.”
The ACT released a photograph of a distinctive donut-printed blanket the baby was wrapped in, hoping a member of the public might recognize the item and provide a lead to the mother’s identity.

Key Details in the Investigation:
- Location: South Tuggeranong Fire & Rescue Station, Conder, ACT.
- Date Found: November 27, 2025.
- Vehicle of Interest: A blue SUV seen in the vicinity of the station on the morning of the abandonment.
- Physical Evidence: A white baby blanket featuring a pattern of pink and brown frosted donuts.
“You Do Not Have to Raise Him”
In a direct address to the mother, Sabellico praised the woman’s decision to leave the child in a location where he would receive immediate warmth and medical attention. Officials have reiterated that their primary concern is the mother’s health and the infant’s right to his own history.
“You bravely chose to leave him where he would be seen quickly… That decision protected his life,” Sabellico said, adding that the mother does not need to justify her actions or take on the role of a parent if she is unable to do so.
Under current Australian welfare protocols, the family could potentially be involved in the child’s life to the extent that it serves the “best interests” of the infant.
Current Status of the Infant
ACT Policing confirmed the baby boy is currently “thriving” in the care of a foster family. However, without parental input, a significant “information gap” remains regarding the boy’s genetic health risks and ethnic background—details that become critical as children move through the foster care and adoption systems.
Authorities are urging anyone with information, or the mother herself, to contact ACT Policing or local health services. Officials have offered assurances that the outreach is focused on support and information-gathering rather than punitive legal action.
