A Tennessee high school senior was shot and killed after trying to get out of a car driven by her ex-boyfriend, authorities said.
Taylor ShyAnn Ratterree, 17, had been picked up from work by 18-year-old Hunter Jackson at about 8 p.m. on Dec. 16, according to the Dickson Police Department in reports from KGNS and WSMV.
Investigators say that when Jackson stopped at a traffic light, Ratterree attempted to jump out of the vehicle. She was then allegedly shot, the outlets reported. Ratterree was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police have not said what led up to the incident, but confirmed that Jackson has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Ratterree’s death. It was not immediately clear whether he has entered a plea or retained an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
In a GoFundMe campaign created to help cover funeral expenses, Ratterree’s loved ones described her as a “creative soul … who loved music, art, and crocheting.”
The fundraiser says she worked part-time at Kroger while keeping up with school, calling her someone who balanced her responsibilities “with grace and determination.” It adds that her life was “cut short in a senseless act of violence” after her shift ended.
Jackson is being held on $3 million bail, according to the outlets.
