A former London police officer has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his wife just months after they married — a murder prosecutors say was meant to keep her from exposing his affair and immigration status.
Brian McManus, 57, was convicted in Georgia for the 2023 murder of his wife, 63-year-old Lucille Ann McManus, the Houston County District Attorney confirmed this week.
The couple met on Tinder and married within three months, according to multiple outlets including FOX 5, The Macon Telegraph, and 11 Alive. Prosecutors said the quick marriage was part of McManus’ plan to obtain a U.S. green card.
Lucille was found dead on Nov. 24, 2023, inside their home in Warner Robins, Ga., after McManus called 911 and reported a suicide. She was discovered naked in bed with a head injury. But police quickly grew suspicious.
According to reports, McManus appeared unmoved by his wife’s death and showed emotion only when discussing that he was the prime suspect. During the trial, he was accused of staging the scene and offering shifting explanations — including blaming Lucille’s granddaughter and even suggesting a break-in gone wrong.
The motive, prosecutors argued, was rooted in an affair McManus was having with a woman in Florida. He accidentally sent Lucille a message meant for his girlfriend, exposing the relationship. When she threatened to turn him in for their “sham marriage,” he killed her, according to court testimony.
Authorities also revealed that McManus had previously been fired from the London police force after multiple women accused him of sexually threatening behavior.
Following a jury conviction, McManus was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
