Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested for driving under the influence on Friday following a rollover accident, sparking renewed concerns from his family regarding his health and recovery.

The 15-time major champion was taken into custody on March 27 after his Range Rover clipped a pickup trailer and overturned. The incident marks the latest in a series of high-profile vehicular accidents involving the 50-year-old athlete.

Sources close to the family indicate that Woods’ ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, is “concerned” following the arrest. Despite their 2010 divorce, the pair has maintained a collaborative co-parenting relationship for their children, Sam, 18, and Charlie, 17.

“She wants him to be well,” a source told reporters, noting that Nordegren’s primary focus remains the well-being of their children. “Elin is concerned that he had another car crash and got arrested. It’s about his health and being there for the kids.”

The arrest comes just weeks after Woods and Nordegren were seen together in Palm Beach Gardens to celebrate their son Charlie’s high school state championship ring ceremony, signaling a period of apparent stability before Friday’s crash.

This latest accident adds to a troubling history of road incidents for Woods:

  • 2021: Woods sustained catastrophic leg injuries in a solo rollover crash in Los Angeles that nearly ended his career.
  • 2017: Woods was discovered asleep at the wheel of his vehicle in Florida; he later pleaded guilty to reckless driving, citing an adverse reaction to prescription medication.
  • 2009: A late-night collision outside his Florida home triggered a global scandal and the eventual dissolution of his marriage.

The timing of the DUI is particularly significant as Woods continues to battle chronic physical ailments. Last October, he underwent his seventh back surgery, and he has spent the last year recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

The arrest occurred just days after Woods made his return to competitive golf at the TGL finals at SoFi Center. Representing his Jupiter Links team on March 24, Woods appeared with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who provided public support during the match.

While Woods recently expressed optimism about his rehabilitation despite “bad days” with his disc replacement, this legal entanglement casts a shadow over his scheduled appearance at the Masters tournament on April 9.

Local authorities have not yet released Woods’ blood-alcohol content or confirmed if other substances were involved. The investigation into the Jupiter Island crash remains ongoing.
