Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, a member of the multi-platinum R&B group TLC, is publicly distancing herself from the MAGA movement after federal financial disclosures revealed her name linked to several Republican campaign contributions.

On Saturday, March 28, the 55-year-old artist issued a statement via Instagram to clarify her political stance and address what she describes as a “mistake” involving recurring donations to organizations tied to President Donald Trump.

Federal election records indicate that a “Rozonda Thomas” residing in Stone Mountain, Georgia—an address previously verified as belonging to the singer—contributed nearly $900 throughout 2024. The funds were routed through WinRed, the primary fundraising platform for the Republican Party, and distributed to the Trump National Committee JFC and Never Surrender Inc.

Thomas’s representatives confirmed the authenticity of the contributions but asserted they were unintentional. In a statement to the press, her team noted that the 17 individual donations were largely “automatic recurring contributions” that Thomas believed were earmarked for non-partisan charitable efforts.

In her social media address, Thomas maintained that her intent was to support advocacy for veterans and the prevention of human trafficking, rather than a specific political candidate.

“I WANT TO BE CLEAR: I am not MAGA and do not support any of the many policies that are causing great harm to the American people,” Thomas wrote. “I made a mistake too many make: I did not read the fine print.”

She cited her father’s status as a veteran and her long-standing advocacy for children as the primary motivators for her financial support.

The financial scrutiny follows a separate incident in which Thomas’s social media account reposted a conspiracy theory involving former First Lady Michelle Obama. Thomas addressed the matter in a video, attributing the repost to a technical error.

“I had no clue that this repost had happened,” Thomas said, explaining that she was “scrolling” and accidentally hit the repost button. She emphasized her “utmost respect and admiration” for Mrs. Obama, dismissing any suggestion of intentional disrespect.

While Thomas maintains the contributions were a clerical oversight, the incident highlights the increasing transparency of the digital campaign finance era. For public figures, the “fine print” of political action committees (PACs) has become a minefield where personal advocacy can inadvertently align with partisan agendas.

Thomas concluded her statement by asking for “grace” as she navigates the fallout, reinforcing that her career remains dedicated to “uplifting women” and “empathy.”
