A mother has died following an apparent shooting at her family’s home in Tipp City, Ohio.
Police were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. local time on Monday, Feb. 16, to the 900 block of Cunningham Court after receiving reports of a burglary in progress and a shooting, according to a statement from the Tipp City Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found 37-year-old Ashley Flynn fatally wounded. Her husband and their two children were also at the home and were not injured.
Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry. Early findings indicate Flynn may have been killed during a burglary that turned violent.
Police secured the scene and contacted family members who could help care for Flynn’s husband and children. Authorities also used police canines, a drone, and assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, but no suspects have been identified.
Flynn was a volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Middle School and a substitute teacher with Lifewise Academy. Tributes from the community have highlighted her impact on students and athletes.
“She was known for her beautiful smile, warmth, kindness, and the positive impact she had on so many—both in and out of the classroom and on the court,” Tipp City School wrote on Facebook. “Our thoughts are with all who are grieving during this difficult time.”
Lifewise Academy said the community would gather in prayer following Flynn’s death, writing, “We are heartbroken by the passing of our teacher, Ashley Flynn. We know God is close.”
The Christian Life Center in Dayton also remembered Flynn in a statement from Pastor Jordan Hansen, who asked the public to pray for her family and loved ones.
